Well, I have done it! Had the nurse visit and she let me practise with a model pen then I had to do it. I was very nervous when it came to it, but it was all over in 10 seconds. I've had a bit of a headache and indigestion - a bit like the morning after the MTX - but that could be more to do with the hectic pace of life this week!

My Dad was admitted to hospital on Tuesday with chest pains. He was on a different watd to Mum who has been in since last week. I've been tearing back and forth, trying to stay up to date with who needs what when! I was really struggling with not feeling good myself as well so wnt to the Dr and have been signed off for a week. I'm glad as I was not really making sense at school. I couldn't even get names right, let alone teach!

Thanks for all being so supportive lately. Here's looking forward to feeling a new woman very soon XX Ailsa

Well done for taking the time off. It is hard looking after parents (my Mum is 93 and a real tartar) as well as working. And teaching needs all your mental energy. Take a bit of time for yourself while your parents are being looked after in hospital. It probably sounds hard but make the most of it. (When myMum gets sent in I almost breathe a sigh of relief - even though it throws up new problems)
Hugs

Good luck with the enbrel, Ailsa - I hope it works for you! Also hope your parents improve soon - my dad is 87, and I am constantly trying to anticipate his needs as he is getting so forgetful.

P.S. i went for my appointment on Weds with Rheumy Nurse and have already met the criteria for Anti-TNF's, i have to go next month for another session then will start on them after that. scared at the prospect of it all like i was starting Methotrexate.

will start my own Thread as i told Rose once i know what's what.

Hi
Sorry to hear you are having such a difficult time at the moment. I have had two enbrel injections and the results have been amazing. Do hope it works as well for you and that your mum and dad come out of hospital soon.

Best wishes

Hi Ailsa
Well done with the Enbrel I really hope it works for you..Im going on the 8th Feb to discuss anti tnfs but think I will go for infliiximab as its done at the hospital and as I already inject methotrexate (and hate doing it) I would rather not have another injection. Like the others have said its good that you have a week off and I really hope your mum and dad are back home again soon take care luv Ceri xx

Thanks for all the support - really appreciate it. Both parents back home now and refusing to discuss sheltered accommodation so I suppose we will just have to wait for the next crisis ...

I was overcome with fatigue after my first Enbrel injection. I really could not wake up next day. Is this a side effect or just because I was feeling pretty stressed lately? I think I will delay my next injection till Friday evening as I'm due back at school on Thursday.

Hope you are beginning to feel better about the prospect of antiTNFs Suzanne. I might be naiive but I didn't really think about ll he side effects. I need to be as well as possible now and if Enbrel achieves that, it's ok.

Really glad to hear how quickly yours is working Sue! That's great news! Take care, Ailsa

Hello Ailsa

Glad your Parents are home and you no longer need to do the Hospital run.

It could be a mixture of the new drug and the stress you have been under with ref
to the tiredness.

I hope the next injection you take will make you feel much better

hi Ailsa,

glad to hear your Mum and Dad are home now, although i know the worry never ends as Parents get older.

i'm thinking the same as Rose the fatigue is probably a combination of the stress and perhaps the Drug as well.

i've had a really stressful day today ... i don't work or have any major problems to worry over but the fatigue by this early evening has really caught up with me.

i know when i first joined the Forum was told to pace myself, and have to say after today i must as to be honest i can't even think straight now.

good luck with the next Enbrel Ailsa, do keep posting and let's know how you're doing.

and that's a good way to look at taking new Drug to try not to think of the side affects because last time starting the Methotrexate i managed to lose half a stone with the worry, so will do my best. and my Rheumy Nurse last week told me the in's and out's if the RA isn't controlled ... so it's a needs must i know !!

take care,

Suzanne x

Just had injection number 2 - and was getting very nervous about it beforehand. I think I may have hit on a good plan for the nerves though ... I cut a big hunk of chocolate cake which I promised myself for once the deed was done! After one false start, I succeeded and then sat down to the forbidden fruit! Lyn, I hope you're right and I will soon get used to doing this! xx Ailsa

Hi Ailsa

and well done, you deserved that chocolate cake! It really does get easier and you won't even think about it. I have found a spot, through trial and error, where I don't feel a thing, so I stick with it. Sometimes I miss but heyho the deeds done before I realise!

The tiredness thing is common when you first start on tnf drugs. It's the body's response to slowing down the overactive immune system. Once your body adjusts to the drug the tiredness will disappear, and hopefully the pain and fatigue along with it ... as if by magic! ThumpUp

Take care Ailsa, you have a lot on at the moment. Try and rest when you can and allow yourself a bit of 'me' time Smile
